What is Vinyl Composite Tile (VCT) flooring?
Vinyl Composite Tile is a type of flooring that is known for its durability, affordability, and high gloss when cleaned and waxed.
Primarily used and recommended in retail, schools, hospitals, and other large commercial spaces, VCT can really add aesthetic value to a building, leaving a positive impression on customers, vendors, students, clients, and other individuals in a building. The next time you're in one of these places, pay attention to the floor. More than likely it's VCT!
How do I know what service my VCT needs?
Dirt and grime being removed via strip process.
Typically, all a VCT floor needs is to be mopped with diluted neutral floor cleaner and a clean mop. This will remove any surface layer dirt or spills that may occur. An experienced technician can look at the floor and determine if you need a top scrub and recoat, or a full strip and wax. If your floors still look dirty after a good mop, the dirt will need to be removed mechanically.
Top Scrub and Recoat
With a top scrub and recoat, the floor is not in bad condition, and a technician can rejuvenate the gloss by using a less abrasive pad with some neutral floor cleaner, and add 1 to 2 additional layers of wax to the exisiting finish. This would be recommended every six months, after a complete strip and wax, depending on the amount of traffic your site accepts during a given time frame. If a top scrub and recoat is done on floors that need a strip and wax procedure, the old dirty wax will reappear through the newly applied coats and really become an eye soar! No one wants this for their business!
Strip and wax
The strip and wax process is done with a low-speed buffer machine, an abrasive stripping pad, a wet/dry vacuum, and floor stripper. With the active ingredient in stripper being ammonia, this chemical is formulated to remove layers of wax from a VCT floor. After the old layers of wax are removed and rinsed with clean water, the VCT will be ready for new wax.
*The floor wax Premium Details uses typically takes an hour to dry per coat, and the industry recommendation is at least 4 coats of protection.*
